Meet Our Fearless Leader, Christina Olivarez
From aspiring television news reporter to award-winning executive coach for Women of Color and visibility strategist for Latinas, my journey has been fueled by a passion for media, online visibility, and empowering women of color. I’m Christina Olivarez and I was born and raised on the US/Mexico Border in South Texas down in the Rio Grande Valley. (Puro 956!) While I once dreamed of being a reporter on Good Morning America or hosting the red carpet for E!, I realized that my impact would be far greater as a leader in the digital space. I was eager to launch my career as a reporter in San Antonio, TX. However, every time I would interview for a position I was often told that I didn’t look the part, would have to change my look, or worse, a FLAT OUT NO!
My deep love for the internet began back in the AOL era, where I learned how to build an online personal brand and community. This passion for digital media eventually led me to launch The Social Butterfly Gal in 2015, a blog-turned-social media management company that served as the foundation for my journey into entrepreneurship. Working with clients to manage their social media, create content strategies, and organize private influencer events gave me a front-row seat to how impactful a strong digital presence can be. This passion helped me to retire from my social media management days and shift into Business Coaching & Leadership Development for Minority Women. I now focus on Personal Branding and Online Visibility through Executive Coaching for Women of Color.
During a networking event, I realized I was often the only Latina in the room. This made me recognize the gaps and disparities in business education and resources available for minority businesswomen. In 2018, I launched Hustle + Socialize, an annual conference dedicated to elevating the voices and business acumen of Latinas and women of color. The rest is history! In 2023, I brought Hustle + Socialize under the SBG brand, and launched the core pillars of my brand: conference, coaching, and speaking.
At the heart of my work is the mission to help you take up space, confidently own your story, and make a lasting impact on your community.
